KAURI - KAURI  

Aged between 1200 and 55,000 years old Ancient Kauri has been on this planet from the days when stone aged man and mammoths roamed the earth, South Seas Trading are now giving our customers a chance to own bespoke furniture crafted from this rare preserved timber.

Buried in swamps high in peat and low in oxygen these giant trees have been perfectly preserved until now, it is believed that these trees which could have stood over 50 meters in height, fell and were washed into swamps where they have been buried ever since, through the last ice age and all events of possibly the last 50,000 years.

The timber is similar to cherry but has very little grain and has darkened over the years making it a true one off timber.

Kauri trees still grow but are now few and far between they only grow in the sub-tropical rain forests of Northern New Zealand and a small number of surrounding islands unfortunately with the settlement of Europeans in these areas 200 years ago 97% of the Kauri trees were felled for ships masts and sawn timber which was exported around the globe, in the 1970's Kauri trees became protected and now there are numerous re-planting schemes around New Zealand.

 The products we are offering are as individual as the trees they come from there are five different age group of timber we can offer 1200 - 5000, 10000, 23000, 430000 and 550000.. Our products range from Ancient Kauri includes coffee tables, dining tables and extra large dining tables and even specialist work surfaces. Regardless of which product you require you can rest assured that it will not only provide a unique talking point but will be a lifetime investment which can be passed on from generation to generation.

With these products being so specialist we are very flexible in both our design and manufacture we can either manufacture furniture from your own designs or design furniture for you  In addition to this we can also visit you to discuss designs for larger projects; as most of our larger products can weigh some considerable weight these Kauri-Kauri products will be delivered by South Seas Trading Company staff ensuring customer satisfaction.
