Plan to plant broad-leaf trees in local area

Oak furniture company South Seas Trading, based in the North East, has teamed up with environmental organisation Tree Appeal in order to give back to the environment and plant new native broad-leaf trees in the local area

The company wanted to make redress for the impact that their business has on the environment and make a positive contribution through planting new sapling trees. Working with responsible companies such South Seas Trading, Tree Appeal undertakes tree planting programmes in locations across the country - aiming to create new woodland, provide wildlife habitat and support biodiversity

South Seas Trading director, Terry Dayson, says: "Cutting down oak trees may not be the most environmentally friendly business, but we can not neglect that this will happen regardless of whether or not we buy them. After lots of discussion and research we have come to the conclusion that re-planting broad leaf trees is the best possible way for our company to move forward. And we know that the trees we plant with Tree Appeal will be placed in non-commercial settings, and they will be around for future generations to enjoy."

The new initiative was launched with the help of Tree Appeal patron and environmental campaigner Professor David Bellamy, who says: "It is with the help of responsible businesses like South Seas Trading that we will be able to put our world back into sustainable working order. By giving back to the natural world through tree planting, South Seas Trading is making a greener world and a better life for all.'

The tree planting initiative builds upon South Seas Trading' long standing commitment to sustainable and ethical business practices.

Mr Dayson says: "Through our travels we have seen lots of products and factories and we ensure that all of our products are manufactured in the fairest possible way. Importing recycled timber to be used for bespoke products is an area of the business which we hope to expand."
